Working Girl

I think I’ve found my calling in life…and it’s retail.

We (Stuber, Cook, and I) are down in Dousman, WI working the Superfit event at the Bicycle Doctor.  Superfits are kinda a cool little program that’s new to the midwest.  Stores sign up for a weekend, and we send a couple of coaches and athletes down to give a few clinics, a lecture or two, and lend our expertise fitting skis.  It’s actually really fun.  I kinda like walking up to random people and striking up a conversation…and from what i can tell, that’s about 90% of what it takes to convince someone to buy a pair of skis.

Another nice part is that working in a shop gives us a little more of a connection to the monetary worth of all the fabulous equiptment we use.  Like, we’re selling new Salomon Equipe 10 skis at a special weekend price of $429 (reg ~$500ish).  That’s a lot of money for a pair of skis, but when i think about how much i love my Salomons, it seems totally worth it.  In contrast, the new Fischer hole skis are going for $649.  Holey Moses!  They’re both top of the line skis, so they’re roughly equivalent, but Fischer’s charging $150 to drill a hole in the tip?  That seems ridiculous, and i’m not just saying that cuz i’m CXC.

I have to wake up early tomorrow morning to help out at the coaches clinic.  Cook handled the one this morning, but I chatted a little with the participants beforehand.  One of them came up to me and informed me that the Halloween picture is getting way old.  I was under the impression that the only people who read this site are my mom and various friends..but as i’ve never met this guy before, i’m taking it as motivation to to do a little better job on updating.  So i’m tired, and i need to get to bed, but for that guy, i figured i should manage to put a little something up tonight.  Better on monday, I promise!  (Sunday will be spent clinic, training, selling stuff, and driving back up to houghton to prepare to fly out to Yelly.)
