Skiers
Sometimes...there are no words.
Houghton, MI
Houghton is, in my opinion, pretty much the coolest place on earth. I drive into town, and I just get a big ole automatic smile on my face. It could be all the cute little houses left over from the minning era, now packed with college students. Or it could have something to do with all my old friends here, and the great memories with them. Or….It could be the mind-blowing amounts of snow they get here. Like, seriously…mind blowing. They got 2 feet on monday. TWO FEET! In one day! If there’s a better place in the world to be a nordic skiier, I have yet to find it. And frankly, I don’t believe it exists.
i LOVE mass starts!
Love love love them! I love all starting together, swarming off the start line like hounds released for the hunt. I love looking for little gaps, little spaces to dart though and move up in the pack. I love getting behind someone who’s skiing well, and letting them pull me to a way better race than I could have on my own. And I Love crossing the line, and knowing exactly where you finished.
And I loved my race today. Another 8th, but it was so much funner than the individual start yesterday that it’s ridiculous. LOVE MASS STARTS!
